Yazidi and Kurdish
925 recordings, 1952–1985, 165 performers, 15 composers
Kurdish-language songs and instrumental music recorded for the Kurdish broadcasts of Public Radio of Armenia (Radio Yerevan), which resumed in 1955 and became a daily 1.5-hour programme in 1961. Many performers were Yazidi and Kurdish musicians from Armenia, alongside Armenian singers of Kurdish dengbêj songs such as Karapetê Xaço and Aram Tigran, both of whom worked for the radio; the most frequent name here is the bilûr (flute) player Egîdê Cimo (Agite Jmo), who performed at Radio Yerevan for 37 years. According to Public Radio, its archive holds more than 10,000 recordings of Kurdish folk songs and theatre plays.
