March

22 recordings, 1966–1994, 4 performers, 10 composers

A march is a piece with a strong, regular rhythm, originally written for troops marching in step and usually in 2/4, 4/4 or 6/8 time. In Soviet Armenia the genre also served schools, youth organisations and festivities: these recordings from 1966–1994 include pioneer, school, sports and cosmonaut marches by Robert Petrosyan, Aram Satunts and Ashot Satyan, as well as brass-band pieces such as Alexander Arutiunian's Armenian March (1982).
