"Artsvaberd" Opera

Yuri Davtyan was born in Kirovakan (Vanadzor). In 1938 entered the violin class of P. Tchaikovsky Music School in Yerevan. From 1947 to 1952 studied in the departments of orchestral conducting and theory at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, in the classes of K. Sarajev and G. Tigranov. After finishing the conservatory he worked at the USSR State orchestra as an intern. Between 1953 to 1963 worked at A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Theatre as a conductor, from 1980 to 2000 as a chief conductor, from 1964 to 1966 was the chief conductor of Saratov Opera Theatre. Directed symphony orchestra of Armenian Radio and TV between 1966 to 1970 and from 1992 to 1994. Yuri Davtyan also served as the chief conductor of Hakob Paronyan State Musical Comedy Theatre. Since 1969 taught at Komitas State Conservatory (Professor since 1979). In 1972 Yuri Davtyan was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of the Armenia, in 1984 People's Artist of Armenia, in 2014 he was awarded with medals of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the “Komitas” Music Society, a medal of the Prime Minister of Armenia, a Gold Medal of Yerevan Municipality and the Union of Theater Workers of Armenia. Died in Yerevan.
