Born in Tabriz (Iran). He received his secondary education at the Armenian Central School of his native city. In 1946 he repatriated to Soviet Armenia. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Marxism-Leninism of the Yerevan City Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia. From 1947 he was a member of the Writers' Union of Armenia. In 1979 he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour. In 1986 he received the Derenik Demirchyan Prize of the Writers' Union of Armenia. He died in Los Angeles.
