Erebuni-Yerevan

Paruyr Sevak was born in Chanakhch (Zangakatun) village. In 1945 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Yerevan State University. From 1946 to 1951 he worked in the editorial offices of "Avangard" and "Literary Newspaper" periodicals. From 1951 to 1955 he studied at the M. Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow, where he taught Armenian from 1955 to 1959. Between 1963 and 1971 he worked as a senior researcher at the M. Abeghyan Institute of Literature of the NAS RA. From 1966 to 1971 Sevak served as the Secretary of the Board of the Writers Union of Armenia. In 1969 he became a Doctor of Philological Sciences. He was a member of the 7th convocation of the USSR Supreme Soviet. He died in Yerevan and was buried in Zangakatun village.
