He was born in Leninakan (now Gyumri). In 1960 he graduated from the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. From 1959 he worked as a soloist at the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Yerevan. From 1979 he acted in a number of films of the Armenfilm studio. In 1989 in Los Angeles, already in poor health, he took the stage for the last time, performing in A. Tigranyan's opera "Anush" (as Kyokhva). In 1984 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Armenia. He died in Yerevan.
