Sorrow

Born in the village of Mrgavet in the Ararat Province of the RA. In 1965-1970 Norayr Davtyan studied at and graduated from the R. Melikyan Music College in Yerevan. In 1970-1974 he studied at and graduated from the music department of the Faculty of Aesthetic Education of the Khachatur Abovyan State Pedagogical Institute in Yerevan. In 1970-1996 he worked in the Aram Merangulyan Honored Ensemble of Armenian Radio and Television as a kamancha player and conductor. Since 1998 he has taught at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, heading the specialised kamancha class. In 1998 he received the academic title of Professor of Musical Art. He is the author of numerous curricula, manuals and collections. As a kamancha player and conductor he is the author of numerous orchestrations, arrangements and recordings. He has toured with concerts in more than 30 countries of the world: England, France, Austria, Cyprus, Canada, the USA, Australia, Brazil, Argentina and others. In 2008 N. Davtyan was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the RA, in 2010 the gold medal of the Ministry of Culture of the RA, and in 2018 the Medal “For Services to the Motherland”, 2nd class. He has been a laureate of numerous All-Union and republican competitions and festivals. Since 2005 Norayr Davtyan has been artistic director and chief conductor of the State Orchestra of National Instruments of Armenia.
