1940s1940–1949

26 recordings, 11 performers, 7 composers, 6 poets

The archive's few 1940s recordings are mostly opera arias and romances, sung by the baritone Pavel Lisitsian, a soloist of the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theatre in 1937–1940 before he joined the Bolshoi, and the mezzo-soprano Zara Dolukhanova, who began her stage career in Yerevan and moved to Moscow in 1944. During the war Yerevan radio went on air every day, and in 1947 it added a second, news-and-music channel and began broadcasting to Armenians abroad.
