The 1970s are the decade of the estrada symphony orchestra of Armenian Radio and Television. Among its most recorded singers are Raisa Mkrtchyan (its soloist from 1968), Bella Darbinyan (1966–1996) and Artashes Avetyan, who sang with it for 23 years. Folk song continued with the Merangulyan ensemble, which the tenor Raffi Hovhannisyan joined as a soloist in the early 1970s.
